In 1985 at the request of then Chairman, Gage McAfee, Bob founded AmCham's Government Relations Committee to open up a direct dialogue with the Hong Kong government. Reputation Risk and Crisis Management, Mar 24
During 2014 Deloitte conducted a global survey in partnership with Forbes Insights to examine attitudes to reputation risk and crisis management. The survey found that reputation risk is a top strategic business risk with 88% of respondents explicitly focusing on it as a key business challenge. The survey also found that reputation risk is driven by other business risks that must all themselves be actively managed. Topping the list of drivers of reputation risk are risks related to ethics and integrity such as fraud, bribery, and corruption. Other drivers come from security risks, including both physical and cyber, followed closely by product and service risks, such as those related to safety, health, and the environment. This seminar will explore the relationship between reputation risk and crisis management. Increasingly, companies are investing in tangible programs to improve their capabilities for detecting, mitigating, and managing reputation risk. Deloitte's experts in crisis management, scenario planning, crisis simulations, and threat monitoring will discuss the application of these methods to manage reputation risk.

China’s One Belt One Road Initiative and its Evolving Growth Strategy, Jul 13
At this year’s Boao Forum for Asia, President Xi Jinping articulated China’s One Belt One Road (OROB) initiative. It is followed by a detailed vision and action plan on OROB by China’s NDRC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Commerce and a series of concrete actions by the Chinese government in creating Asia Infrastructure Development Bank, Silk Road Fund, and other mobilizations at local, national and international levels for implementing the OROB initiative. These dramatic policy shifts happened when the China’s growth has slowed down significantly, its domestic reforms has entered the deep-water territories, and its efforts in playing a larger role at the international stage have intensified. China and the Chinese economy seems at a cross road with ever increasing volatility and uncertainty. In this talk, Professor XIAO Geng will help us to put these complex economic and policy dynamics in the context of China’s evolving growth strategy and explain and debate on the prospects of China’s sustainable growth and its implications for regional and global peace and prosperity.

Supply chain risk management involves controlling the variety of risks across third party engagement and contract management, industry regulations and labour law compliance, quality assurance, and fraud and corruption monitoring as well as business continuity planning. Supply chain strategy will set the sourcing footprint your company pursues within a dynamic regional and global economic landscape and will define your approach to lowest cost sourcing versus best value sourcing over a longer term. Shadow Banking in China, Jul 14
Hosted by the Financial Services Committee and Real Estate Committee In recent years domestic banks in China have turned more cautious towards lending to the real estate sector and bank loans have become increasingly difficult to obtain. As a result, more developers are seeking alternative sources of financing to fund their growth and expansion. One option is to raise debt through the shadow banking market. The shadow banking system in China encompasses a collection of non-bank financial intermediaries which provide services similar to commercial banks but are not subject to the banking regulations. There are a wide range of intermediaries including underground banks, microcredit companies, off-balance sheet loans for domestic banks, private equity funds and trust products. Though the largest shadow banking markets are the United States and United Kingdom, China's shadow banking system has been growing at a tremendous rate. Recording an increase of 42% in 2012 alone, it is currently estimated to account for as much as US$ 3.5-5 trillion equivalent to 26% - 55% of the country's GDP. With this in mind, will there be more default cases in the Chinese residential markets? How will this impact the overall real estate market? Will this create a knock-on effect on the already slowing economy in China? Please join our lunchtime event to explore these issues and more.
